The thought of family reunions make me a little nostalgic. When I was a child my mother’s family had a huge reunion every year and I loved it! Seeing aunts, uncles and cousins that I hadn’t seen in a year and, of course, the food was always abundant and delicious. I was especially fascinated by a wash tub full of homemade lemonade!
Many family reunions center around a potluck or covered dish dinner, which is an easy way for large groups to get together. But deciding what dish to contribute takes a little planning, especially if you have to travel.
If you’re looking for the perfect thing to take to a gathering like this, you can’t go wrong with an old-fashioned sheet cake. Sheet cakes are simpler to make than layer cakes, and much easier to carry. And the cake can be frosted and served right out of the pan.
Of course, you can find sheet cake recipes in every flavor. But you can never go wrong with our Easy Chocolate Sheet Cake.
I also love this Banana Cream Sheet Cake – the perfect example of the delectable flavor and moist texture that ripe bananas contribute to baked foods. And the “icing on this cake” is the perennial favorite – rich and delicious, cream cheese. Of course, if you are traveling, you’ll want to keep it in a cooler.
Tell me about your family reunion memories or your favorite dish to take along.
