Have you ever been to the National Cornbread Festival®? It’s a couple months away, but I’ve got cornbread on my mind, and it makes me excited for the festival.
It is such a fun weekend! Every April, thousands converge upon the quaint town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee to see the sights, feel the history and taste the cornbread that is cooking downtown. One of my favorite areas to stop by is Cornbread Alley, where you can taste up to nine different delicious cornbread recipes. There’s always a competition for the most popular booth, and I love to see who the crowd picks as the best.
The festival doesn’t just focus on cornbread, though. I love stopping by the Jam Tent when I have a minute. Anyone who wants to play is welcome to bring their fiddle, guitar, banjo or harmonica for a little friendly competition.
Of course, one of my favorite parts of the weekend are the cook-offs. Each year, contestants from across the country enter their best recipes for a chance to take home the title of Lodge Cast Iron National Cornbread Cook-Off Champion. There’s still time to get in on the fun and enter to win the coveted cast iron crown.
All you need to do it head over to nationalcornbread.com and enter your recipe. Recipes must be an original, main-dish creation that can be served as a standalone meal, be cooked in Lodge Cast Iron® cookware and include at least one package of Martha White® cornbread mix. The deadline is this Friday, March 11, so get your recipes ready!
While you’re at it, go ahead and mark your calendars for a road trip to South Pittsburg. This year, the National Cornbread Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary and you’re sure to leave full of cornbread and a smile on your face. Be sure to stop by the Martha White booth to grab some goodies and say hello!
